CofC at C&B

Welcome back to Foodie Roomies!

Today we have our very first (food related) blog post! We are going to discuss the famous, at least for CofC students, Caviar & Bananas. If you are not familiar with Cav and you have been to Charleston or live here, first of all, what is wrong with you? Do you live in a cave? Do you just not enjoy life? Regardless, we’re going to enlighten you, because you are definitely missing out.

Caviar & Bananas, Cav for short if you’re a regular (we most definitely are) is a cafe type eatery, but not a basic cafe. When you walk in the door it can be kinda overwhelming because there is a coffee bar at the front with a glass case full of assorted pastries––trust me they’re QUITE tempting. But then, there is also a sandwich station, fresh-made salad station, plenty of canned and bottled beverages, take-home dried goods––granola, honey, sweets, you get the point––and typically there is a glass case of daily specials, sadly this case is currently being renovated, but do not fret! You can still order food from that case it is just not on display.

Moving on! Absolutely everything they serve is good if not amazing. At this point, given that we have been frequent customers for about 2 years, we have tried most of the food. Some of our favorites include the ricotta toast, the caprese sandwich, the ‘bama salmon sandwich, and the salad bar. We’ll start with the ricotta toast! So Cav does their ricotta toast with white bread, a ricotta cheese spread, apricot jam, and crushed pistachios to top it off. Initially, I was skeptical, but then I tried it and let me tell you blog readers, this is heaven on earth! Moving on to the sandwiches; the caprese is your typical mozzarella and tomato with balsamic on ciabatta, but you can never go wrong ordering one! Now the ‘bama salmon––a lil spicy so be careful if you’re sensitive––smoked salmon, jalapeno slaw, and something called ‘Alabama white sauce’ on sourdough. Not as basic as the caprese but a great choice if you’re looking for a little adventure :). FInally the salad bar, while Caviar does have a bunch of pre-designed choices, you can also build your own! Think more toppings than you could ever imagine for your salad, and you get to choose!!

Personally, I think that a huge part of eating in college is how fast you can get a good meal without spending a ton of money. Cav is perfect for CofC students because it is located on George right next to CVS, super convenient, good service, good food, and fast enough that you can grab a sandwich between classes and still be on time! Okay maybe a few minutes late but who’s going to blame you if you show up with Cav? However, if you’re hoping not to see people you know DO NOT go. Because of the convenience and popularity it’s basically a given that you will see someone you know whether you want to or not. On the other hand, super great place to study, meet up, grab coffee, lunch, whatever you want! Caviar is pretty much always our go-to coffee date spot.

That’s all for this post! We hope you agree with our thoughts on Caviar & Bananas, or if you’ve never been Go! Try it out! Tell them we sent you ;)
